Your Councillors

The Parish Council consists of 9 Councillors, one Councillor is appointed as Chair at the Meetings and one as Vice-Chair. The Parish Clerk is employed by the Parish Council and acts as the Responsible Financial Officer, administrator and advises the Parish Council on lawful decision making and implementation. The Parish Council works to a set of rules called Standing Orders. These are available for the public to view either online or by contacting the Clerk.

Born in Ireland in 1949 and moved with parents and family to England in 1967.

Married Phillip and moved to Woodsetts in 1971.

Qualified as a teacher, teaching all primary age groups. Retired in December 1999.

An active member of St Joseph’s Catholic Church, Dinnington.

A Parish Councillor since 1983 and is the current chair having been elected in May 2021, this being the third session of chairing.

Member of the Village Hall Management Committee since its opening in 2007.

Past Chair of Governors at Dinnington High School and current Member of LEAP Academy.

A Trustee for Yorkshire Rural Community Council until its amalgamation.

Awarded an MBE in 2019 for Services to the Community of South Yorkshire.

Is an active member of the local community of Woodsetts, always keen to engage with young people and passionate about the wellbeing of all residents and their quality of life.

Phillip and his wife Helen moved to Woodsetts in December 2000 and moved into Berne Square in 2014.

Phillip is from a mining background and he and his family worked at various Collieries including Waleswood; Brookhouse and latterly at Kiveton Colliery where he remained until his retirement at the age of 50.

He has been on the Area Housing Panel for many years representing local residents. Phillip was elected to the Parish Council in 2015.

Judith was born in Keighley, West Yorkshire.

She moved with her family to Woodsetts in 1987. She is an active member of St Joseph’s Parish, Dinnington.

After a Nursing and Midwifery career, she worked as a lecturer at both Rothervalley and North Notts Colleges.

Since moving to the Village Judith has been an active member of the Community and joined the Parish Council in 2011.

Judith is a keen walker and she can often be seen walking around the Village with her dog Flynn.

Richard was born in Pocklington, East Yorkshire and lived in Otley from the age of 5.

Joined the Civil Service in 1960 and worked in Ripon; Doncaster; Sheffield and Retford as a tax inspector until retirement in 1996.

Married Linda and moved to Doncaster in 1964.

Richard and Linda moved to Woodsetts in November 1972.

He was elected to the Parish Council in 1979 until 1995 when he stood down due to work pressures. In May 2003 Richard was re-elected to the Council and He served as Chairman until May 2021.

Richard played Cricket from an early age; is a founder member of Woodsetts Cricket Club being elected President in 2015 and is also an Umpire for the Bassetlaw Cricket League.

Richard is an active participant in the village being a member of Woodsetts Village Hall Management Committee; a Member of the Neighbourhood Watch group and the Local History Society.

Richard was born in 1967 and lived in a newly built house in Hoades Ave until aged 4yrs until his parents moved to a neighbouring local village to run a successful business for 20yrs.

In 1989 he trained to be a registered general nurse at Rotherham District General hospital and upon qualification worked as Paediatric staff nurse there until moving to the South of England in 1996. For the last 23yrs he has worked in Child Mental Health, as a Specialist practitioner and then for the last 10yrs as a Child Psychotherapist. In 2019, Richard came back to South Yorkshire to take up a post in Rotherham and returned to living in Woodsetts.

Richard is a proud father to three daughters who have all been successful in pursuing their desired careers.

Richard is a keen cyclist; riding to work most days come rain or shine and enjoys the surrounding countryside with some running and walking.

Feeling so lucky to live in a rural area with all it has to offer Richard feels some commitment to protecting and maintaining the environment and promoting Woodsetts as a good place to live and enjoy.

Simon has lived in Woodsetts all of his life and worked for Royal Mail for over 30 years.

He is the Vice Chair of Dinnington Resource Centre. He also serves as a Justice of the Peace.

Simon has previously been a Councillor in Woodsetts but left when he was elected to the Borough Council to serve as a Councillor for the Dinnington Ward.

Simon was co opted on to Woodsetts Parish Council in May 2021.

Simon hopes that with his experience and knowledge and that of his fellow councillors that Woodsetts becomes the best village in the Rotherham area.

Simon has lived in Woodsetts all of his life and worked for Royal Mail for over 30 years.

Born and raised in Luton but moved to Anston and now onto Woodsetts in 2020, Tom takes great pride in the village. 

Plays rugby for local side Dinnington and is a big sports enthusiast so if you do see him on one of his usual walks around the village feel free to engange in conversation and talk about anything.

Robert was born and raised in High Green .

Worked in Heavy Engineering in Chapeltown for 12 years and then moved to the Midlands to procure Engineering Goods and Services. Later moved to Farnborough to join a major UK Industrial Gases Provider as a Supply Manager and finally to Sheffield.

Robert and his wife Maureen moved to Woodsetts Village in 1994.

He became involved in village life shortly afterwards as a supporter of and volunteer with the Millennium Group and then as a member of the Village Hall Management Committee. He was elected Chair in 2015 .

He has been a Parish Councillor since 2015 and hopes to remain on the Parish Council for some years to come. His aim is to work with fellow councillors to maintain the attractive and peaceful nature of the village.

He and Maureen enjoy living in Woodsetts.
